Biographical / Historical

First Swedish Baptist Church of Duluth was organized on March 23, 1884 with fourteen charter members. Before they built a church at 19th Avenue West and 1st Street in 1887, they used the building located at 20th Avenue West and 1st Street for services, as did the Second Baptist Church. A new building at 22nd Avenue West and 3rd Street was dedicated in 1910, and an addition was added in 1934. By 1927, when the church was renamed Temple Baptist Church, English had slowly replaced Swedish, although the language was still used until 1939. In 1961, Temple Baptist Church merged with Central Baptist Church. In 1999, the congregation renamed the church Lincoln Park Baptist Church.

Central Baptist Church was originally founded in 1884 with eleven charter members as Second Baptist Church under the Northern Baptist Association, and worshiped in a church 20th Avenue West and 1st Street. The church was renamed to Central Baptist Church in 1904, although it was not legally changed until 1924. They built a new church in 1903 on the same lot. The congregation became affiliated with the Baptist General Conference in 1957. They purchased a lot for a new church at 3210 Decker Road between 1957 and 1959. The chuch merged with Temple Baptist in 1961.
