Scope and Contents

The North Shore Baptist Church collection dates between 1954 and 2005 over two boxes.

The History folder includes written histories and other loose historical documents, such as event bulletins, contractor information from building the church, and some bank information.

The Constitution file also holds by-laws and a church covenant in addition to original and ammended constitutions.

The Correspondence folder holds letters, many of which address pastoral role fillment.

The Membership folder contains lists of members, including charter members and church directories.

The Membership ledger is dated to 1958 and belonged to the membership secretary, and the church membership lists were updated until 1961. Several loose documents were taken from the pages of this ledger and added to a corresponding folder. These include letters of membership and lists of members.

The Meeting Minutes ledger dates between 1958 and 1996. It records organizational meetings, business meetings, and board meetings.

The Annual Reports date between 1954 and 2001, with missing years from 1955,1959, and 1973.

The Church Closure Documents folder contains documents from Church Mutual Insurance, US Bank, Dell Financial Services, as well as the property transfer to the Minnesota Baptist Conference.

Historical note

In 1943, Bethel Baptist Church of Duluth began a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at a small building at 7535 Brighton Street, known as North Shore Chapel. In December 1958, North Shore Baptist Church was organized. The property at 15 S Lakewood Road was purchased in 1960, and the building was dedicated in 1964. The mortgage on the building was paid off in 1976. In 2005, the church building was transferred to the Minnesota Baptist Conference when it closed.

This collection is arranged thematically in an archivist-imposed order. The files in the Documents from Membersip Ledger are kept in the order in which they were filed inside the original ledger. The Church Closure Documents folder are kept in their donated order.

Custodial History

This collection was kept by North Shore Baptist Church. It was likely donated to the History Center after the church closed in 2005.
