Scope and Contents

The Grant Application folder for the Green Council dates to 2001 and 2002. It contains grant information from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Bethel applied for the Conservation Partners Grant Program to remove invasive buckthorn.

The Russelll Johnson Nature Trail folder contains flyers and maps from the trail, as well as an invitation letter for the dedication of the trail in 2003.

The Council binder dating from 2001 to May 2005 contains a few newspaper articles, documents regarding the formation of the Green Council, correspondence, and meeting minutes.

The Council binder dating from September 2005 to 2009 was later expanded to contain documents until 2012. The binder holds a continuation of the agendas and meeting minutes from the Green Council. It also contains material for the Campus Green-Up, an event to pick up litter, and flyers to support the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota by hosting a used clothing donation bin.

Historical note

The Bethel Green Council was formed in 2001 by faculty members concerned about environmentalism, including biology professor Bob Kistler. The Council assisted to build the Russell Johnson Nature Trail around campus, remove invasive buckthorn, and increase recycling, amongst other projects.

The original order of the materials has been retained, as well as the original binders and folders used by the Green Council.

Custodial History

Digital Library Manager Kent Gerber acquired these materials at an unknown date, and they were kept in the digital library workroom in the Lakeside Center until summer 2023, when they brought to the History Center after Gerber's departure.
