Scope and Contents

This collection contains material kept and created by Andrew Liliemark, including a musical textbook from his time as a student at Bethel. There is also a binder of 28 original unpublished compositions of hymns by Liliemark during his time as a Baptist minister. These are in English and Swedish. Intermingled with the music is a Swedish poem by Liliemark published in a newspaper in 1979.

Biographical Note

Anders (Andrew) Liliemark was born December 10, 1890, in Dalarne, Sweden. He was baptized in Stockholm in 1905. Liliemark immigrated to America in 1915, and immediately entered Bethel Seminary, graduating in 1918. He served at churches accross the American Midwest. In 1918, he married Naomie Henrietta Wiik, with whom he had four children. He was an active musician, and composed many hymns, some of which were published in the New Hymnal, a publication of the Conference Press. Liliemark's composition "A Morn Without A Cloud" was sung at his funeral in April 1987.

Custodial History

Janet Liliemark, granddaughter of Andrew, kept the collection until donating it to the History Center in 2022.
