Biographical Information for Carl H. Lundquist

Carl H. Lundquist (1916-1991) was the third president of Bethel College and Seminary and served in this capacity for 28 years, from 1954 to 1982. A man of vision and contagious optimism, he lead the institution through a period of growth in enrollment (from 401 to 2,670), in campus size and location (8 acres in St. Paul to 213 acres in Arden Hills), in budget ($533,000 to $16 million), and in academic standing, gaining accreditation for both the College and Seminary. Lundquist was also very active in the Christian community beyond Bethel including the National Association of Evangelicals, the Baptist World Alliance, and he was one of the co-founders of the Christian College Consortium. After his retirement, he and his wife founded the Evangelical Order of the Burning Heart, dedicated to continuing to encourage Pietist values for the devotional life that was his major interest for study and teaching.
