Historical Note

Cumberland Baptist Church was organized in February 1957. They held their first church service in April at Cumberland School at 700 E. Golf Rd., Des Plaines. Pastor Frank Doten came in June, and his family lived in a newly purchased parsonage at 624 Bob O Link Rd., Mount Prospect. In September 1958, the congregation broke ground for a home to be used as a church building and later a parsonage on a newly purchased lot on Central Road. They dedicated the building in February 1959. Elmer Fischer became pastor in 1962. Groundbreaking for the church building was held in April 1963, and the building was dedicated in 1964. In 1966, the congregation became the mother church of Lake Zurich Baptist Church. Robert Hails became pastor in 1970. By 1973, they were building a new sanctuary, which was dedicated in 1974. In 2007, the church changed names to Life Community Church. It closed in 2019.
