Scope and Contents

The Founders Week Recordings collection dates from 1955 to 2001 and covers 37.5 cubic feet in 25 boxes. It consists of audio reels and cassettes, with one film reel from 1977. These recordings are of presentations given by speakers at Founders Week.

Historical note

Founders' Week was a conference on various Christian subjects held at Bethel annually. Founders' Day was first celebrated 1933. It was typically held in February in honor of Bethel founder John Alexis Edgren's birthday. It was switched to Founders' Week between 1940 and 1943. In 1990, the conference was renamed Renew, with a focus toward pastors.

This collection is arranged chronologically, with a few undated recordings at the end of the collection.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

The recordings before 1975 are primarily on audio reel, and afterward primarily on cassette. Exceptions are noted in the finding aid. The 1972 recordings are all on cassette. The History Center has no equipment to play audio reels but can play cassettes.

Custodial History

The majority of cassettes were transferred to the archives from the Seminary Library in 2017.

Many of the cassettes from 1971 and 1982 were donated by Carole Spickelmier in 2018.
