Bethel Women's Federation collection, 1927-1996
Scope and Contents
The Bethel Women's Federation collection spans two boxes of three cubic feet and covers the years from 1927 to 1996.
The History folder contains various items, such as flyers and pamphlets advertising the group, writing about the group and their projects, newspaper clippings, information about Bethel, and lists of Twin Cities area White Cross groups.
The Constitution and By-Laws changed several times, and the folder holds copies from between 1927 and 1954.
The Finance folders hold treasurer reports, disbursements, bank statements, and receipts. The Finance books include invoices on order on treasurer and checking account books.
The Bethel Federation Chorus folders date from the 1940s to the 1960s, containing ticket stubs, financial information, programs, newspaper clippings, and reports.
The Correspondence folder dates between the 1930s and the 1960s.
The Ballots folder contains ballots for leadership position elections, dating from the 1940s to the 1960s.
The News-Gram was the Federation newsletter. The folder runs from 1962 to 1989.
The Events folder holds mostly programs and flyers for musical events held as fundraisers.
The Reports folder begins in 1935 until 1964. There are general reports, a report from the Program Committee, on mailing and assembling, on sewing, and from the president.
The Programs folder contains annual programs of meeting dates, officer lists, and events. It dates between 1959 and 1974.
The Annual Reports date between 1956 and 1970. They record annual reports, events, and statistics.

The Membership folder and binders date from the 1930s to the 1950s and hold lists of members and membership contributions.
The red binder dates from 1976 to 1985. It holds information about events, News-Gram newsletters, meeting minutes, and financial data.
The Bethel Women's Auxiliary Cookbook was put together in 1984, compiling recipes from members.
The Friends of Bethel folders dates between 1992 and 1996. It holds membership information and information about the scholarships funded by the organization.

Biographical / Historical
The Bethel Institute Kvinnoförbund was organized in 191 by Margareta Bodien as a organization of women to support Bethel, in particular furnishing dormitories and dining rooms and providing equipment. It was supported by various women's societies at different Twin Cities area churches. In 1935, the group was renamed the Bethel Women's Federation. The name was changed to the Bethel Auxiliary in 1968. In the early 1990s the organization was renamed the Friends of Bethel and was opened to men as well.
