Swedish Baptist Scrapbooks collection, 1878-1965
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of 28 scrapbooks by different people, all involving the Swedish Baptists in America.
The first scrapbook of the collection dates from 1912 to 1922. It covers topics including Kiron Baptist Church, World War I, and photographs of people.
The Winneth Souls scrapbook contains alphabetized clippings and photographs of Swedish Baptists.
The Churches scrapbook holds alphabetized photograph clippings of Swedish Baptist Churches in America.
The Missions scrapbook includes photo clippings of pastors and churches.
The Minnesota scrapbook dates from 1954 to 1965, and primarily focuses on newspaper clippings and other scraps from Minnesota and especially Minneapolis.
The Thornquist scrapbook contains churches and preachers clippings. It is labeled "Donated herewith to the Historic Library by Rev Carl Andersson, Omaha, Nebr."
The John Hedeen scrapbook dates from 1878 to 1902, and mostly includes newspaper clippings in Swedish.
The C.P. Peterson scrapbook includes some Hagstrom family photos, some Swedish Baptist materials, and a lot of clippings on various other topics, such as politics and World War I. It dates from 1892 to 1926.
The Green scrapbook holds primarily newspaper clippings, mostly in Swedish. It dates to around 1900.
The Brown scrapbook contains material on William Riley, S. Holm, Carl Lagergren, Elim Baptist Church, and Billy Graham in his early evangelism. It dates from 1912 to 1958.
The Seminarie-Posten scrapbook was created in an issue of the Bethel Seminarie-Posten. It was possibly made by Eric Rosen. It dates to 1922.
Two World War II scrapbooks date from 1941 to 1942. They contain newspaper clippings of the war's progression. It's unclear who made them.
The G. Arvid Hagstrom scrapbook contains "clippings, facts, incidents, personalia." It dates from 1892 to 1940. Many clippings and notes were interfiled in the pages without being pasted down, and now are in three corresponding folders.
The Baptist General Conference of America scrapbook dates to 1947. It holds photographs of pastors and churches in Canada and the United States.
The Bethel Theological Seminary Jubilee book dates to 1921 for the 50th anniversary of the Seminary. It was given by Betelseminariet in Stockholm.
The Jubileums-Adress is a memorial book celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Swedish Baptist Geenral Conference. It was gifted from the Baptists in Sweden in 1902.
There are two Home Missions William Turnwall scrapbooks, one from 1946 and one from 1947. They revolve around article clippings about Home Missions with the Baptist General Conference by Turnwall.
There are four other Home Missions scrapbooks. One is labeled Some of Our Home Missions Missionary Pastors from 1957, which holds photographs of pastors' families. Another reads These Churches Have Been Helped By Loans, which holds photographs of churches. The third is titled These Churches Have Been Helped By Opportunity Band, and also holds photographs of churches. The last has newspaper clippings on Home Missions from the early 1950s.
The 75th Anniversary and Centennial of the Swedish Baptist Geenral Conference items are large certificate booklets presented to the BGC from Baptists in Sweden.
The Hedeen scrapbook dates between 1899 and 1938. It contains material from John Hedeen and Gunnard Hedeen, including letters, postcards, school material, and photographs.
The Charles H. Carlson scrapbook contains mostly newspaper clippings and photographs of Swedish Baptist pastors and missionaries.
The Meyer Company scrapbook is in an oversized catalog from 1903 and 1904. It is filled with newspaper clippings regarding Swedish Baptists between 1903 and 1914.

Custodial History
The Charles H. Carlson scrapbook was owned by the pastor of this name. It then went to his daughter, Viola Evangeline Peterson. This scrapbook may have been donated by John Ruhlman of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Washington, or from Carlson's granddaughter Karen Parnell in Anacortes, Washington.
It is unclear when the scrapbooks in this collection were donated.
