Scope and Contents

The Bethel Marketing collection dates from 1921 to 2016, spanning 10 boxes of 16 cubic feet. It contains mostly paper-based materials, with some CDs and other media.

The dated folders, as well as the binders interspersed in these folders, contain various types of marketing between the 1920s and 2016. These include event programs, brochures, guides to the area, anniversary material, fundraising campaigns, and departmental fliers. The 2000s folder holds an advertisement for a new Bethel website. Several booklets are also included, such as one produced in 1971 by the Coeval and Clarion staff, one from 1970 describing life at Bethel and different programs, and an admissions booklet from the 1970s.

The Undergirding the Future booklets describes some building projects, such as the fieldhouse, more academic buildings, and more dormitories.

The Calendars date from 1945 to 1998. The pictures feature mostly students and alumni, particularly people of color in the 1990s.

The Founders Week folder holds mostly programs and brochures from the annual Founders Week, celebrating Bethel's founders with lectures on a theme. There are also cassette order forms from these recorded lectures.

The Chapel folder holds mostly chapel schedules from the 1980s and 1990s, as well as a few chapel programs from the early 2000s.

The Theater folder contains mostly programs and advertisements for shows by the Theater Department, but also holds some schedules of the theater seasons.

The Music folders contain programs, fliers, and brochures of different music events, such as choir tours, Great Hall concerts, faculty artist series, There are also advertisements for the Music Department.

The Art folders hold programs from various art exhibits put on at Bethel, mostly from the 2000s, but some earlier. There is also a 2011 booklet called Coming Going, which includes work form the collection of Peter Kang, published by NYCAMS.

One folder is labeled "I'm a PROUD Bethel Parent!" and contains mostly brochures and programs from Parents Weekend.

The Retiree Events folder holds programs from celebration events, as well as material from the Royal Retirees group.

The Alumni folder contains materials from the Alumni Association, especially brochures and fliers.

The Welcome Week folder dates from 2001 to 2011, with programs and survival guides.

The Homecoming folders date between 1983 to 2016, with a few items from the 1960s. They are mostly advertisements for Homecoming events.

The Bethel Sunday folder holds material mailed to churches to promote supporting Bethel each year.

The Bethel College folder is a green folder with the school seal on it, holding promotional materials inside.

The Jerry Ohm folder holds architectural renderings of the Community Life Center and Benson Great Hall.

The Vision Grows was a campaign to raise funds to build the Community Life Center. The folder contains marketing information sent out to donors. Several booklets describe the campaign and the future building. Giving with Vision to Bethel is a booklet more generally to donate to Bethel, but from the same era.

A folder from the Bethel College and Seminary Foundation is empty, but shows the marketing style from the Foundation.

The Royal Investors was a group of donors, and the folder contains marketing events for donations.

The Bethel Investor was a newsletter for raising funds sent to donors. The folder dates from 2004 to 2014.

The Time Is Always Out of Joint is a booklet advertising the new campus in Arden Hills.

The Academic booklet shows images and descriptions of different programs at Bethel.

The Take the Next Step folder holds advertisement booklets for prospective students dating from 1999 to 2006. Many contain enclosed CDs.

Taking the Next Step booklet was a campaign to raise funds to build the current Brushaber Commons, and it details the plans for that building.

BRIDGE was a campaign to connect Bethel closer to related Baptist General Conference churches. The folder contains mostly the Bethel Bridge Cable, a newsletter dating from the 1980s. A Resource Directory of Bethel Services For You was prepared and published through BRIDGE.

The Athletics folder holds brochures, posters, and booklets of different Bethel sports. Several booklets dating from 1987 to 1993 hold season information for hockey, football, and basketball.

A Manual of News and Publication Services was written by Florence Johnson, providing guidelines for publications from Bethel. Marketing Plans for Bethel College and Seminary 1987-88 also has preliminary plans through 1989-90. "A New Step Forward" was another marketing plan from 1987 and 1988.

The DeRose-Hinkhouse Awards folder contains awards for marketing initiatives, many going to Sherie Lindvall.

The Website folder holds printouts of the website from 2001.

The Carnegie Communications folder contains ad purchases for different magazines run by the company.

The CD-Rom letters folder holds correspondences regarding the CD-Rom put out by Bethel during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The other CD-Rom folder contains mostly invoices and contracts to make the CD.

The Discipleship Journal folder holds orders for advertisements to be put in the journal.

The Focus folder is from the Bethel Focus, and contains orders creating the magazine, as well as advertisements in the magazine.

Fridley Winter Drumline put on a show of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in 2002, and Bethel put an advertisement in the program.

The Radio folder contains orders for radio advertisements for Bethel.

The Memos from the President folder holds some memos from the Bethel president Brushaber that were sent to Marketing to create.

The Peterson's Undergraduate Services folder contains orders for advertisements to recruit students to Bethel.

The Religious Communications Council folder holds the 2002 membership directory, which includes Sherie Lindvall.

The Sherie Lindvall folders date between 1997 and 2003. They consist mostly of marketing orders and invoices.

The Marketing Binders folders hold the contents of large white binders from the Center for Graduate and Continuing Studies. The Planning folder contains information on marketing initiatives. Application packets dating from 1989 to 2000 are from PACE, Program of Adult Continuing Education, majors in Organizational Studies, Nursing, and Business Management. The PACE Bulletins date between 1998 and 2004, containing information about the programs. The PACE folders contain many newspaper and magazine advertisements, as well as some newsletters called PACE Setter. The PACE Module Descriptions and Learning Outcomes is a booklet specifically to an Organizations class. Course Descriptions booklets are from the programs for a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Studies. Three catalogs from 1996 and 1998 provide specific details about PACE, and are separate from the academic catalogs. One academic catalog from PACE dates to 2003 to 2004 and is on CD. The other folders in this series are not specific to PACE, but do market the Center for Continuing Studies. These include advertisements for Bethel's graduate programs. The Application Packets are for graduate programs such as Master of Education, Organizational Studies, Nursing, Business Management, and Counseling Psychology. The Bethel College Graduate Programs folder is an original marketing folder with information from the Master of Education Programs. Several Professional and Personal Development Seminars date to 2000 and 2001. The Bulletins of Elective Courses date from 2000 and 2001. The Graduate Programs Bulletins date from 1997 through 2007, containing information about the programs; similarly the College of Adult and Professional Studies Bulletins do the same from 2004 to 2007. Several CDs of Graduate Catalogs date from 2003 to 2005, and College of Adult and Professional Studies Catalogs from 2004 to 2006.

The Seminary series primarily dates from the 1960s to the early 2000s. There are brochures and fliers advertising events, as well as the Seminary in general. The Continuing Education folder contains brochures for continuing education courses available through the Seminary, mostly from the 1970s. Bethel Seminary Prosopon dates from 1969 to 1970, and acts as a form of yearbook. The Take the Next Step booklets advertise the Seminary, dating to the early 2000s. The World Class Seminary booklets are from St. Paul and San Diego. With Heart and Mind is a booklet advertising the Seminary, as is the booklet Bethel Theological Seminary. The Doctor of Ministry Degree for Military Chaplains booklet is titled "Move Ahead in Your Military Ministry Career." The Doctor of Ministry folder holds mostly brochures advertising the degree. The Pastor's Refesher Course folder holds brochures mostly dating to the 1960s. The Facilities folder holds programs and brochures from groundbreakings and dedications of seminary buildings. The Seminary of the East folder holds fliers advertising the school on the East Coast. Renew was an annual event of speakers, and the folder dates from 1988 to 1995. The Applications and Financial Aid folder holds materials from different years. Transforming Church Initiative was from 2007, consisting of speakers and sessions. The Day of Spiritual Formation Journey was an event of speakers from 2006. Three folders are from Bethel Seminary San Diego, including the service of dedication from 1990. There is a booklet from the Taking the Next Step campaign specific to fundraising for San Diego. The Course Descriptions folder contains descriptions of courses and programs, such as Children's and Family Ministry, Transformational Leadership, Urban Ministry Leadership, Global and Contextual Studies, and others.

By the Way was a newsletter published by Public Affairs, later News Services. It dated from 1979 to 1988.

The CDs series hold 127 CDs of mostly photos and some videos. The CAS videos from 2007 are a series of six videos based on themes of Reconcilers, Salt and Light, Christ-followers, Character-builders, Truth-seekers, Learners, and World-changers. The 2010 Alumnus of the Year video features Bruce Dahlman. Three CDs hold photographs by Dean Riggott from October 3, 2008, picturing the art gallery, Benson Great Hall, chapel, the classroom, various people, the Bethel entrance, the football stadium, and skateboarders. The Hilary Ritchie photos are from a chapel service, possibly from 2012. The Science Convention photos feature chemistry and also appear to be from 2012. The Bethel Values CD holds photographs of Bethel people. Many of the CDs are from Scott Streble Photographer, holding photos of Bethel dating primarily from 2004 to 2016. The Jay Talk CD holds audio from May 2010 of a talk by Jay Barnes on budget cuts. The Welcome Week photos from 2008 were taken by Brad Person. Five CDs with other photos date to 2002 to 2009; the photo archive CD looks like scans of older photos. The Woody Dahlberg CDs contain photographs of the visit from the King and Queen of Sweden in 1996, classroom photos, and mascot photos from 1997. The Homecoming Dodgeball photos are from 2011. The Bethel Graduation from May 2004 photos were taken by Tara Patty. The Sounds of Christmas Artwork CD holds the CD design for the 2005 Festival of Christmas. The CAPS Viewbook 2006 contains photographs of the College of Adult and Professional Studies.

The 2019 Acquisition series holds materials transferred to the History Center by Marketing. The Architectural Drawings Campaign folder holds photographs from the event, both thumbnail prints and CDs, featuring the Take the Next Step campaign from 2006. Another folder holds thumbnail prints and a CD of photos from July 2004. The PACE/CAPS/GS folder holds advertisements and invitations to a celebration of 10 years of adult college and graduate programs. The Science Department folder are thumbnail photos of science faculty and students. Two folders contain negatives and slides for the 2000 and 2001 Annual Report. The Transforming Church Initiative CD holds photographs from 2008 taken by Brad Person. Portraits of Scott Wible date to 2009. One CD has photographs of San Diego, John Lollis, and Theola Campbell. The Executive Council CD has pictures of San Diego, the Executive Council, the San Diego library, and some teachers and students, dating to 2007. The NYCAMs CD dates to 2008 and holds pictures of artwork, Shannon Klingen and John Silvis. The CAS Viewbook CD has some photographs and graphics for the book from 2004. The Grace Johnson CD dates to 2007 and has pictures of Fort Myers, Florida. Other CDs of photographs date to 2006 to 2012. One CD holds a video of a Bethel Spanish class. Residence Life at Bethel are promotional videos from dorm life from 2004, including a tour of Lissner. One CD holds photos of commencement from 2011. A Video from Sasaki shows the architectural plans for the Student Life Center from 2005, as well as promotional material for Bethel. From Small Beginnings is a video showing photographs of the history of Bethel, produced during the Taking the Next Step campaign. Photos from December 2006 were taken by Wendy Zins Photography. Photos from the Seminary of the East's 25th Anniversary were taken for a Heart and Mind article. 42 CDs contain audio from sessions from the Transformational Church Series dating from 1997 to 2005. Two boxes of photograph slides show a slideshow of architectural drawings and graphs. A Sony MiniDV cassette is labeled 2008 1st spectaculos. A medallion has the Bethel University seal. A glass etched block of the Community Life Center was given to Eugene Olson.

Several awards for Bethel's marketing team members from various external organizations celebrate the marketing initiatives from Bethel.
