Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Oscar Schuleen papers span the dates from 1902, when he immigrated to America, and 1959, when he died.

The Connecticut and Massachusetts folder deals with his time as pastor in New Britain, Connecticut and Worcester, Massachusetts. The folder holds his ordination certificate from 1907. Clevelend, Ohio folder contains mostly bulletins from the church he pastored there.

There are three Correspondence folders. The general folder spans everything that does not fall under the correspondence written during Schuleen's time in Cleveland or California.

The Human Immortality paper is a 62 page document in Swedish that looks like it may have been a school essay, possibly during his time at the University of Chicago.

There are three folders of poetry, mostly written by Schuleen. Topics vary, but mostly are religious in nature.

There are two folders of Sermons and other writings. These primarily consist of sermon notes, types and handwritten, as well as various other notes he recorded.

The Deaths and Memorials folder hold some funeral notices, a memorial document for Schuleen's mother, and some legal documents from the cemetery in Oakland.

Newspaper Clippings folder holds several clippings, including obituaries and other articles Schuleen decided to keep.

The General folder holds a variety of items, including documentation from Schuleen's time at the University of Chicago, materials from churches in California, and some bookmarks.

The Clyde, Kansas folder holds materials from Schuleen's time as pastor in Kansas at the Brantford and Clyde Baptist Church during the 1930s.

The Legal documents, travel, and immigration folder contains Schuleen's immigration paperwork, his naturalization certificate, documentation from his travel between Sweden and America, and property documents from California.

The Photographs series cover mostly churches and family pictures. The Religious Education Classes folder also includes a class in Sparta, Michigan. Six oversize photos are kept in box 3.
